Valentina Release 18.2.1 extends Command Line diagnostics, help and AI support

Also more prompt options, better Python support and Valentina Forms.

Release 18.2.1 follows a major update to the Valentina Platform with Release 18. Release 18 added full-text search to ValentinaDB, introduced a new Chart control to Valentina Reports and Valentina Forms, expanded the Valentina Forms toolbox, enhanced productivity features of Valentina Studio SQL Editor and Data Editor and the ability to use AI Ask and Agent modes with Valentina Forms.

Valentina Studio

Valentina Studio is the popular, free database and data source management suite of tools from Paradigma Software. Valentina Studio PRO adds advanced features to the Studio toolbox, including Report Designer and Forms Designer. Valentina Forms is your solution for building and deploying desktop-based database management systems for custom data-tracking applications with graphical user interfaces with free, royalty free local and server based deployment. Users can work with Forms projects on Linux, macOS and Windows. This release includes:

  • [New][Appearance] Added Use colored icons under Preferences > Appearance for supported semantic icon accents. Enabled by default on Windows and disabled by default on macOS and Linux.
  • [New][AI] Added Sandbox, Ask for Approval, and Full Access choices for AI Python actions. Sandbox is the default and restricts selected file, process, network, and system operations, but does not isolate Python from Studio; Agent-mode actions can still change attached objects.
  • [Imp][AI][Form Editor] In Ask mode, the AI can inspect an attached Form through a read-only copy without modifying the live Form.
  • [Imp][AI][Python] AI-generated Python now uses native len(sequence) and sequence[index] syntax for application sequences.
  • [Imp][AI] Improved cancellation and reset handling and added explanatory errors when an AI provider returns an empty response.

Valentina Command Line Interface

Valentina CLI support is automatically installed along with Valentina Studio and Valentina Server.

  • [New][AI][Schema] Added –ai-schema so AI agents can inspect the actual tables, columns, indexes, and constraints before generating SQL. It writes a versioned JSON snapshot for local ValentinaDB, SQLite, and DuckDB databases and for Valentina Server databases. ValentinaDB snapshots also include catalog link metadata and column dimensions.
  • [New][AI][Help] Added –ai-help[=<TOPIC>] so AI agents can look up engine-specific SQL guidance before writing queries, without opening a database. It returns a versioned JSON guide with documentation links and task-oriented Valentina SQL cards; SQLite and DuckDB currently return documentation links but no cards.
  • [New][Connections] Added –read-only for existing local ValentinaDB, SQLite, and DuckDB databases. It rejects write operations and cannot be combined with –create or remote –host connections.
  • [New][Diagnostics] Added –warnings and –tunes for native Valentina query diagnostics from commands, SQL files, standard input, and interactive sessions. Diagnostics are written to standard error and are available only with –engine=valentinadb.
  • [Imp][Database creation] –create now accepts named native Valentina DbMode layouts such as kDscDatBlbInd. Existing Boolean values remain supported. SQLite and DuckDB reject named Valentina layouts.
  • [Imp][Output] On macOS and Linux, –pager=auto now starts paging only when interactive output reaches the terminal height or width. –pager=on always pages and –pager=off prints directly.
  • [Imp][Shell completion] Generated Bash, Zsh, and PowerShell completions now provide richer value suggestions and option-specific descriptions.
  • [Imp][Help] vcli –help now links to the general Valentina documentation and SQL Reference.
